A recent study by Slot.Day has examined the impact of DeepSeek AI’s release on the popularity of various AI tools. The research analysed monthly search trends, company valuations, and market changes, highlighting a significant shift in user interest. Data was collected using Google Keyword Planner to track search volumes and their fluctuations, while company valuations were sourced from Forbes.

The release of DeepSeek AI has significantly influenced the popularity of various AI tools, causing notable shifts in user interest. A recent study by Slot.Day analysed search trends, company valuations, and market activity to determine how different AI tools have been affected. Using data from Google Keyword Planner and Forbes, the research ranked AI tools based on the decline in search volume following DeepSeek’s launch.
The findings reveal that while some AI tools, including Perplexity AI and ChatGPT, have seen a reduction in searches, others, such as DeepSeek and Alibaba’s Qwen 2.5, have gained significant traction. The study highlights the evolving nature of the AI market, where emerging models are reshaping user preferences and challenging the dominance of established tools.
Impact of DeepSeek AI on AI tool popularity
Perplexity AI records the largest drop in search interest
Perplexity AI experienced the most substantial decline in search interest following DeepSeek’s launch, with a 33% reduction in searches over the past month. Despite this decline, Perplexity AI remained the second most-searched AI tool, accumulating over 15 million queries during the period.
Chatspot sees a 22% drop in searches
Chatspot, an AI tool developed by HubSpot, ranked second among the tools experiencing a decline in search interest. Searches for Chatspot dropped by 22%, with only 2,180 recorded last month, marking a notable reduction in user engagement compared to previous months.
Gemini and Claude each experience an 18% decline
Google’s Gemini saw an 18% decrease in searches, placing it third in the ranking. Despite the decline, Gemini remained one of the most widely searched AI tools, with approximately 13 million queries in the past month.
Similarly, Anthropic’s Claude also recorded an 18% drop in search interest. However, its total search volume remains significantly lower than that of Perplexity AI and Gemini. Despite this, Claude’s parent company, Anthropic, holds a valuation of $18.4 billion, making it twice as valuable as Perplexity AI Inc.
Jasper Chat and Botsify also lose 18% of search interest
Jasper Chat, another AI tool, recorded an 18% decline in search volume. While Jasper AI operates on a smaller scale than some of its competitors, it still received over 580,000 searches in the past month.
Similarly, Botsify also experienced an 18% reduction in searches, bringing its total to just 3,100 for the month. As a lesser-known AI tool, Botsify has a significantly smaller market presence. Additionally, its parent company, Botsify Inc., is the smallest among those analysed in the study, with an estimated net worth of $1.5 million.
ChatGPT registers a 17% decline but retains strong search volume
ChatGPT, one of the most widely recognised AI tools, recorded a 17% decline in searches. Despite this drop, it still received an impressive 12.9 billion search queries in the past month. However, the emergence of DeepSeek and other AI tools appears to have impacted its overall search traffic.
Intercom experiences the smallest decline in search interest
Intercom, an AI-powered customer communication tool, recorded the smallest decline among the analysed AI tools, with only a 3% reduction in searches. Despite its lower overall search volume—just over 2,000 queries in the past month—Intercom has maintained its core audience more effectively than many of its competitors.
DeepSeek and Qwen 2.5 gain significant market attention
While several AI tools have seen a decline in search interest, DeepSeek has emerged as the fastest-growing AI tool, recording a substantial 321% increase in searches. Additionally, Alibaba’s Qwen 2.5 has gained momentum, with a 49% rise in search queries.
A spokesperson from Slot.Day commented on the findings:
“The AI field is seeing rapid breakthroughs with new models like DeepSeek emerging almost weekly, transforming the industry and affecting even the established leaders. We’re again seeing how open-source AI models reshape the market, become more accessible to developers and researchers worldwide and, potentially, lead to better-performing tools at a fraction of the cost.”
These shifts in search trends highlight the rapidly evolving nature of the AI industry, where emerging models continue to reshape the competitive landscape.
